My story is like so many others. Millions of families have been touched by cancer, and many patients and caregivers are looking for (any) way to alleviate the debilitating symptoms.
On my second round of chemo, another patient told me that cannabis in butter would help alleviate my nausea. This was in the days before Zofran was used, and I was feeling pretty terrible. I went home, obtained raw cannabis from a contact, ground it up and folded it into butter. Not knowing that it had to be decarboxylated first, it made me incredibly sick.
Upon my next visit to the oncologist, I asked her about this and if there was a better way to administer cannabis for nausea and she flatly refused to talk about it. Left without answers and turned away with a disapproving glare, I tried to find more information. The bookstore had nothing, and the internet was not robust in those days. What I found was that there were no true medical references for cannabis.
What has most shocked me the most in this journey is that unless you are “in-the-know” on the amazing amount of research that is going on, or know where to find information that is reliable, not much has changed in over 30 years. Doctors still won’t talk about cannabis, won’t put its use on your chart, info is still not available in the PDR (Physicians Desk/Digital Reference), and it’s still not being taught about in medical school.
I wanted to solve this problem by making plant medicine easy to understand. CBD is everywhere these days, and the need for information on interactions is even more important than ever before. With our AURA app, we aim to bring the clearest information and directives to patients to solve this problem.
Find out how AURA works by downloading it today in the Play Store. The app will also be available in the iOS store next week.
